Hi all,
Just wondering if any of the more learned in all things laptop related can give me some advice on a decent new laptop to buy.

Looking at spending about $1200-$1300 but may stretch to $1500 if required.

Basic specs I'm after are:
Good battery Life
About 160gb HDD
Core 2 duo would be nice
decent screen preferbly wide screen
In-built wireless networking
1 or 2gb RAM
And the rest of the fruit.

Any suggestions I can check out on the net...
Found the Toshiba A300/E00 Which looks like pretty good value.

All suggestions appreciated.

Dell seem good for price value for money at the momment

Our salesman has a macbook... with windows XP installed on it hehe

In my experience ive had no problems with Acer. Ive got one near on 5 years old. Still tickin over and the battery still has decent life in it. I would tend to steer away from Toshibas, they seem to kill their batteries rather quick, like my fiances toshiba, it will not run unless it is plugged in (they may have sorted this out, i dunno) and unless you get a top of the range laptop, try and avoid Vista if you can. every laptop ive seen so far (mind you, only 4) with Vista on it seems to really chug and die in the arse after a couple of months. Although i think its pretty hard to get XP these days.

if u get vista get min 1 gig ram but 2 gig now days is what u should be looking at

Yeah just checked this one out after looking at the Dell XPS M1330....
Best thing about the 1720 is Dell's taking 20% off the list price which brings the price down to $1200.....anything worth upgrading on the base machine?

Its really for my wife to use so she's not stuck in the study....she wants to able to use it in the kitchen while keeping an eye on my little boy....with another little one on the way it makes more sense.

what is she using it for?
It's like buying a turbo, you have to match it to your intended use
