Default computer help

hey guys

All of a sudden today my computer shat itself.

I wasn't using it, just sitting at my desk watching the footy and it restated.

When it boots up now there is these weird color vertical lines appear. The compputer also gives me the window to choose if I want to start it in safe mode.

It will load in safe mode but the weird vertical lines are still there

When I try to load it normally it shows the lovley blue screen of death.

I haven't downloaded anything latley and it had been working all morning.

Any ideas WTF has happened?
I guess I have to format the hard drive?

If you're running on XP, boot with the XP setup cd and choose the option to Repair installation, when in the XP Recovery Console, run CHKDSK and if it's nothing major it'll find any fix any bad sectors on ur hdd, but could also be video card on motherboard.

If the chkdsk option doesnt work, see if you can borrow a video card from someone and if that doesnt fix it, reformat.

My 2 cents,
Josh
