Thank you for your email asking about my views on certain issues in the electorate of Alfred Cove.



I appreciate your enquiry and provide the following for your information.



I supported the instigation of the hoon legislation in State Parliament and supported its recent upgrade where vehicles can now be confiscated for seven days, instead of the 48 hour confiscation that was in place previously.



As the Member for Alfred Cove, I receive constant complaints from people of all ages asking for assistance to stop people hooning in our streets. As a mother, a nurse and a politician, I cannot condone anyone driving on public roads in an unsafe manner.



Through your network, you may already be aware of the private circuit and drift practice days that the WA Sporting Car Club holds at Barbagallo Raceway for members who hold a CAMS Competition Licence and membership card. The Raceway is an ideal venue for high performance vehicle owners to test their driving skills and their car's performance in a safe and controlled manner. The group can be contacted on 9306 8022 for further information about the programs that they run.



With regard to motorcyclists, I have been one myself (many years ago) and I believe that with the rising cost of fuel and issues relating to climate change and green house gas emissions, more people will be turning to motor cycles and scooters in the future.



The Motorcycle Riders Association of WA provides representation regarding road safety and legislation affecting motorcyclists. One of their aims is to promote motorcycles as a viable alternative mode of transport. The group also oversees motorcyclists rights and works for a fair and sensible deal for all riders.
