GTI ftw.

Yeah R32 are a bit $$, but then they have a lot of the GTI options as standard. If you were to add leather, bigger rims, upgraded stereo etc etc the GTI price wouldn't be that far off the R32. I'm getting second hand as well so will be paying around $45k I think for a low ks 07 R32 which is a pretty similar price to a lot of second hand GTi s that have optional leather, DSG etc.

That makes sense if you're going second hand.

A new GTI with Leather, sunroof, DSG was around the $46k mark when I ordered my GT, which is about the same as a second hand R32.

Get ready to pay $65k - 68k on road for a brand new R32. Obviously, you would negotiate your way through that though.

Yeah forget that. 68k makes it sound very expensive. I've found a blue DSG r32 5000kms for 49k. So will offer him 45 and see what he says. Its been for sale for a while now as have most of the R32s on Car Sales. Although they're all interstate, but thats cool. I bought my 350 that way. Little bit of hassle but lots of choice and cheaper than WA.

I did read that their current sales are not as high as they predicted/hoped and they were initially losing $2000 per Golf. They're doing better now but appareently thats only because of the Eos and Jetta models. I guess these are included as part of the Golf range. So I would say VW Australia would be having a think about whether to sell the Mark Vi here or not. I think it's due out mid 09, with new 2.0l engine. I've also read the R32 will be discontinued as it doesn't meet European emissions levels and instead there will be a 'GTI-R' which will be AWD and be using same 2l engine as the GTI, but tuned similarly to the S3.

A friend of mine has an '04 R32 with supercharger, exhaust, KW coilovers and a few other bits. It is a superb road AND track car, though I think it may struggle to keep up with a similarly (supension) modded and up-tuned STI..
