2009 Tokyo Autosalon
Just booked flights to Japan for the 2009 Tokyo Autosalon.
Would just like to know how many people have been there for it before? Where did you stay? Where would you recommend staying? What sort of places did you go to and see? How hard is it for a non-japanese person like myself to get around? Anyone else planning on going for it?

What's your budget?
You can stay in the downtown area or out in the outskirts One of the best places for public transport (trains, subway) Lots of interesting places to see, bring warm clothes You'll be fine getting around, lots of signs to help and color coded just make sure you have cash in hand, ATMs are not common, and not all places use/accept visa |

Ryokans - or traditional jap B&B can be cheap, around the outskirts
Can usually get breakfast (traditional or western) for around $80-110 per night You'll have to be open minded food wise, not they don't eat everything raw and they don't eat cats/dogs (bloody perceptions!). But some food looks weird but they are great, you won't find teriyaki there. Or CBD area, around 180-300 per night. Try Wotif, last minute Try jalpak.com.au for some insight on accomodation and this http://www.japaneseguesthouses.com/index.htm |

I stayed at the Monterey Hanzomon Hotel last time I was in Tokyo. Very new western style hotel with rooms in the $150-160 bracket but chances are it's gonna be more 'Salon time.
Getting there from Narita was a bit of a pain, limousine bus to central then $10 taxi but once you're there it's very convenient as the Hanzomon subway station is across the road from hotel. |

Sweet!! I'm gonna be at 2009 Auto salon as well! I went to the 2007 and it was awesome! Unfortunately I dont know where abouts is a good place to stay around that area, seeing tokyo is a really large place, but i guess you want to stay somewhere close by... check out "Sakura house" they have heaps of share type places around Tokyo that are quite cheap, even for short stays. I stayed at a place called Shrek Watta house (the house keeper liked the movie...). It is situated on the west side of Tokyo, 20min west of Shinjuku and is really cheap. From memory it took about 60min to get to the Auto salon by train.
Getting around isnt bad but may take a few days to get used too. If you want some more info i'll be happy to help ya out, especially seeing i'll be there from the 20th Dec to the 14th Jan |

I was in tokyo last christmas and we stayed at the crowne plaza. Was around $200 per night. The boys are going back this year for the auto salon. I would be going to but I have to go to a wedding in scotland.
+1 for Jonno's call. It is seriously cold. Brendon
