MP3 car audio question
A couple of Q's:
1)whats the maximum size CD you can get. Mine are standard 750mb, but I heard you could get 900mb+? Is that right? Do they use some of compression that may make them incompatible with car stereos? 2)Most of my MP3s are around 3mb, is there a simple way of trimming down the file size to enable me to get more songs on a disc? Is there 3rd party software that would do this or would something like Itunes, WMP do it? |

1) not that i have heard
2) mp3 is a already compressed format. So no you can not further compress it however you would be able to reduce the quality of the mp3 which i would not recommend. eg. from 192kbps to 64kbps which will half the size. |

1. You can get 650MB, 700MB, 800MB and 900MB CD's. Depending on the reader, the 800/900MB discs may not be read properly.
2. As mentioned MP3's are a compressed format already. Changing the bitrate from 320kb/s to 192kb/s will take up less space, but at a reduced quality. Think of the difference between a CD and radio. Going lower than 192kb/s in my opinion is a waste of time as you start to lose more noticeable sound quality.

have you tried using a DVD Data disc? They are usual 4.3GB - I'm pretty sure I backed up my itunes library years ago (Queen, Take That, Jason Donovan etc ) onto a DVD - not sure if it'll play in an MP3 player (songs obviously must be MP3 to even try)

A cd drive will not read a dvd, so that won't work.

also if your encoding your own mp3's check zee interweb or the owners manual for any particular way it needs to be done for your particular deck.
Probably not relevant these days, but my mp3 deck didnt like it when i had mp3's that were done with a particular stereo mode n would skip n screech at me |
