There is, however, a fine line between a smacktard employee that brings nothing to the table yet demands more and an employee the yeilds a company big gains yet still demands more. Its pretty much a case of, is this person an asset, or liability.

Only problem i see with this is, it seems like a Ford vs Holden battle. It'll continue forever (mind the pun) and will swing in each others favour over time. Eventually those smacktards will be back with the economy screaming for employees again and it'll just cycle through.

so over employees crap and cant wait for the recession - I'll have employees that show up on time, do their job, that'll work overtime and that wont be continually quoting non comparative pay rates from my competitors to me.

Productivity last year for one of my businesses averaged 40.5% from July to now. This year it is at 44.5% and we have had a price increase that should have got us to under 40% where we should be.

Employees slacking off because they know we cant find anyone else - but not for long!

Unfortunately a recession isn't on the cards, however that wouldn't change the slack mindset a portion of the labour force exhibits nonetheless IMHO.

These are the same type of people who were unemployed when John Howard took over all those moons ago. Some things never change

Maybe recession is a strong word - downturn then

I am talking about qualified trades people that used to give a shit - now they don't.

When jobs get harder to come by, they'll start caring again.

Did anyone read todays paper? GM reckon their company is worth approx USD$2b and their monthly operating expenses are USD$11b. They reckon unless the US govt gives them USD$50b they will be gone before christmas. Now people could be buying holdens that have been built in India by Tata. More rationalisation coming your way. About time.

Considering Ford was in more trouble than GMH their announcement can only be days / weeks away.

Oh yeah I'm following this one keenly! 2.5 million people out of work in the USA if they go under...were talking the great depression kinda of shit.

Real pitty that Bush spent all that money in Iraq instead of using it to prop us their manufacturers over the last 8 years. Imagine the difference it would have made now. GM owe that much $$ to employee pension and health insurance funds for retired employees it's almost impossible to fix I believe.

Hi,

The Americans must think we are a complete pushover.

Cheers,

I honestly dont see the point in have an unproductive worker, boom or not. Get rid of them.

BHP sacked 30 blokes in the middle of a mining boom because they realised that production was not where it was ment to be. Unfortunatley they randomly picked people and ended up firing Dual trade instrotechs, good sparkies and apprentices that did their work....hah. I know its BHP but they are a business like everyone else. Sometimes people just need a swift kick in the arse.

As a 1st year apprentice i sure needed one
