I worked at Bunnings for 5+ years, my g/f did for 7+ years and her mum has been there for 13+ years. Its not a bad company to work for. Full time staff get employee share plan, the rate of pay is not to shabby, and you get the option of working the extra hours + sundays for extra kesh... Its easy work for the money really...

A, your likley to get fed up and return home
B, your likley not to stick with them, use them for a short while till a better job comes along
C, your qualifications arnt directly referenced to Aussie ones.

It took me ages to get a job in perth, i'm a fully qualified aircraft / armament / laser / EMC engineer - BUT all my qualifications are military based, hence no can worky at the airports and fuck joing up again apart from tha fact i'd have to be a citizen, which you cant do till untill youve been in country for 30 months.

So i was basically screwed, i started working on building sites, hard work but great fun, and i met some top people, i'm now a sales rep for an electronics company, who'd have thought!

Good luck, just start at the bottom and work like fuck youll be earning good money again in a couple of years!

PS i just applied and passed my citizenship test, ill be an aussie too soon heh, soon to be back blowing shit up for the government.

They totally fucked a bloke I worked with at WNG. He quit L7 as Rio had offered him the job, he was about to start and they said.. sorry! Contract freeze go away for 6 months.

They haven't done this yet and it is 14,000 world wide. YES a fair portion will be from Australia but just think about how many other businesses they own around the world in other industies that are just about rooted now. That's where the majority will come from.

But yea, it would certainly suck to be on a contract with Rio Tinto at the moment, never knowing when they pull the pin on you. For the foreseeable future many industries are rooted, take what you can get folks!

Domestic Airport, a company called aerocare who contracts for Virgin, Skywest and Tiger...i work for them, hiring people by the droves atm and most of them are fucking shit and quit after 2 weeks cos they dont want to work for their money. If your able bodied, have own transport, are willing to learn and dont mind working from 4am in the morning, then apply and you WILL get a job.

the work is there but people arent prepared to lower their standards or work hard.
