Default Need advice on Demerit point system

Hi Guys,

Well it was bound to happen but i'm losing my license. Had 3 points remaining and got busted by a copper for speeding the other day losing my last 3 points. Knew i was on the edge so i usually keep it less than 20 over the limit but i didnt factor the the max spped with a trailer was 100 even in a 110 zone.

I have some points coming back to me in early April next year, i'm aware that the points dont get taken off me till i pay the fine.... So how long can i drag this thing out? Think im probably pusing it to drag it out for 5 months but im hoping someone with knowlege in the field coud let me know exactly what happens. If i dont pay the fine how long will it take to get a reminder and how many reminders will i get before they take me to court?

Also is it easy to get an extrordinary license? How long do these take to get through?

Cheers, any info/ experience would be greatly appreciated.

Doesnt matter when you pay the fine as it it will go back to the time you got the fine not when you pay it. If this is your first time, you'll lose it for 3 months. But a demerit point suspension letter has to be served upon you and then your licence is gone from then. I stopped a guy the other day with 19 points. He can still drive till the letter is served.
Extraordinary licence you ask for through the court system. Ask Hein

Ok... you have 28 days till you need to pay the fine. You could wait it out and have them send you another fine.. but i dont think it applies to written out tickets.. only speed camera fines (im not too sure on this bit)

You could elect for court and post it for another month (waiting for summons and trial etc). Then face it up in court against the coppa who got you, although it could blow up in ya face and you get slugged harder by the magistrate, so its a little bit of a gamble.

I have been told its rather hard to get an Extraordinary Licence, you need to submit a few forms and reasons as to why you need it. (ie you will loose your job without a licence)

You need to wait 21 days after you loose your licence before you can apply for the Extraordinary Licence.

with written out tickets you can wait till another one comes in the mail, it just adds an extra 12.50 on top for office fees or sum shit

yeah you can hang it out for 28days regardless.

they will then add an extra $12.50 to the fine.

you can then if you want wait another 28 days and they will add $115.00 approx for court fees.

after that if you don't pay after 28days you get put on fines suspension until it's paid.

if you want i can check your current demerit status. pm me your license #.

cheers,
j

Damn hoons!

From personal experience you can put it off and put it off in the hope you get a point or two back and be constantly worried driving or you can pay the fine, hand your license in rather than wait for them to come and collect it, whore for 3months and start fresh on 12points.

Its hard getting an E's license. As Pete said, they wont give you one unless you REALLY need your car to live.

Pay the fine so you can sit around and drink over Christmas,
then come March you will have your full 12 points back.

Been there, done that (don't ask how many times)

Consider it gone - You wont make it 5 months.

I lost my license for 3 months earlier this year and it's not *that* bad, it's just a little tricky to get around sometimes.

I've lost mine before, right after i started a new job and had to catch the train from Heathridge to Vic Park every day (not cool!)

But as has been said .. just take it on the chin and get a clean slate in 3 months time
But expect your insurance to go up
