112 is the international emergency number on ALL mobile phones. always works even if there is no SIM. Even if its asking for a PIN, dial 112 and get emergency services. It is part of the GSM standards. All mobile carriers are forced to honour it. They just dont bother to tell anyone about it. Very handy if there is an accident... pick up anyones mobile and hit 112 then send (green button) Feel free NOT to test it... you will get a fine for being a dickhead if there is no emergency. Here is an odd test... I took the SIM out of my phone and it says "INSERT SIM". If you press any button it dones nothing... BUT... press 112, and it shows on the display... just don't press SEND. Even if the handset is locked... press 112... just DONT press SEND.

done be IEEE or ISO. This being the case, 112 is enforced when manufactures make mobiles. So forget 000 on the mobile, use 112.

also as ian mentioned its an international standard, so no matter which country you are in, dial 112 from a mobile and you will get that countries emergency services.
