Default Ex Taxi, anyone?

Hi guys,

Just after an opinion...

Would anyone considering buying an ex-taxi (falcon, lpg, 6XX,XXXkms) for long distance travelling?

Have heard conflicting viewpoints about the pros and cons about owning an ex-taxi.

So would like some opinions and insight as I have not owned a lpg car before.

Thanks.

they have a pretty regular service interval with the big companies, a cabby i spoke to the other day said his got a major service every 100,00km. speek to pimpreza on here or wait for him to pipe up, i believe he used to drive a cab.

Main thing i notice about cabs with a fair few KM's is a shitload of diff-whine especially on the Fords, have been in several new Ford cabs where the fuel guage is also not working.

think of the:
a) ammount of accidents its been in
b) ammount of puke that the rear carpet and under the front seats has seen

ieeewwwww

but if they threw in one of those beaded seat cover things that could be the deal closer

how much are you talking for one anyway? you can get a regular falcodore for cheap cheap anyway

I have had 3 ford falcon wagons over the last 5 years, all have been lpg and all have been sh1t. they had fuelling issues in the earlier ones, then the ba and bf just cooked the brakes constantly. diffs are a big issue too but you can have them rebuilt for about $800. The interiors of the ford however are much better than the same year model holdens.

Taxi's do get more tlc than my fleet vehicles but i would not buy LPG if you are considering country driving. the economy on the hwys is not great and lpg in regional areas is very expensive. so much so that it works out cheaper to run petrol.

i've owned 2 ex taxis, bought them from a guy who used to service them very regularly. Main thing check for diff whine and make sure gearbox synchros change the gears smoothly....oh and the steering aint too loose. Other than that I'll be suprised if the LPG fuel gauge is still working. They make good bunkies, not scared of parking them at train station northbridge
