My 86 FJ1200 has 60k on the clock. Shows that you can find older bikes with bugger all km's on the clock.

Do you have your license yet? RE or R?
No good getting a big bike first up if you can barely ride it (unless shadowed).

Yeah I have had my re for years now. I will get as much training as possible if I do get a bike.

If you havent ridden for years and only have an RE.. Its a pretty bold move to jump on a fast bike straight away. Wear all your gear dude and take it fucking easy.

You are right. I am definitely not out to be a fuckhead and like I said I would be getting a hell of a lot of training and just using it for a blue sky weekend ride every once in a while.
Thanks for the advice though guys. I definitely want to know what I am doing and don't want to become a statistic. |

My Old mans bike has nearly 90K on it, actually took it for a thrash this morning checking out his new braided lines, zorst and susp setup. Still runs like new and never misses a beat. Like a Hi-po car its all in the maintenance
Im not a Buell fan personally. Never had the chance to ride one but they are different and cool in their own way, especially the front brakes. If you have never been on a big bike before the pace will catch you out, even if you have been in quick cars. Just travelling as a pillion with someone who can ride you will shit yourself. If or when you get one jump on PSB as they always have learner rides through the hills and supervised trackdays at barbs where you can hone your confidence and skills.

Definately ride the bike you are interested in first. Such a different feel to each bike. I rode the Buell XBR1200 I think it was called. Was very underwhelmed. Had a bit of bottom end and then hit the limiter when it was just staring to get good. Much prefer the delivery and handling of my Duke. But then have a mate with a buell who swears by it.
Oh, and just about to tick over 50,000kms on my bike. No dramas at all. But does get prevenative maintenance.

Don't ride without a shadow. It is now classed as unlicensed. Mandatory loss of license, Court date the works. Not just the $100 fine anymore.
If you hold an RE then you do not need to go get a permit to ride the big bike with a shadow ( Your RE is your permit ) but you do need to pay for the test before you try to book it. If you join PSB and go on a group ride make sure you have insurance. You will not be popular if anyone on the ride finds out you are uninsured/unlicensed. They will happily shadow but you must have insurance.
