Default Cloning a HD

Since i've spent a week or so cleaning my hd of a trojan, and having a spare HDD i thought how about clone the bloody thing and re-clone it next time i run into troubles.

What's the best way to clone a Windows XP hdd onto another HDD? I tried Norton Ghost 12 but can't remember why it failed, I think it wanted the original Windows boot disk which i don't have?? Cant remember, is there anything else i can use?

U can use an older DOS based version of ghost, download it for free. Either put it on a floppy disk or CD. Make sure it's bootable and it's pretty straight forward. Just google 'ghost boot disk'. From memory there's only one file - ghost.exe plus the boot files. It's really simple and does the job.

Is it as simple to put the ghosted copy back to the original drive?

Yes. Basically you have a number of options - disk to disk, disk to partition etc. It's really straight forward.

http://www.9down.com/Hiren-s-BootCD-...d-Patch-73110/

download that and burn the iso to a disk. then boot off the disc when your computer starts and go to cloning tools.

Gravedig

I'm looking to upgrade my server at work , problem is that I run a proprietary POS (point of sale, piece of shit same same) software that does not come with install disks. They charge like a wounded bull to install their software. I got a quote from them for $800 just for the labour of installing their software. get Fooked.
Currently the server runs XP Pro (yes I'm 10 years behind times) and the slaves all run XP Pro.
I wish to get a newish PC running 2 HDD in RAID1 and Win 7 pro. WIn 8 is not compatible with their software and latest hardware will not run XP .
Will a cloning software like Acronis allow me to clone the POS program over even when I have installed a newer OS like Win 7?
any help or suggestions appreciated

That's different.

You could clone the drive but you can't "clone" installed files onto a new OS. That's not cloning.
