i know when i got my type-ra jap import the frequencies inside the head unit run on a different scale 50-83fm or something, and they are set in the stereo, where as we an uk run 80-108fm or something like that so even with a converter id imagine 92.9 tuned to ur radio will not be tuned into the station unless the converter is wired into the the processor in the stereo...?

Yep the Jap stereos wont work on Aussie frequencies unless you can get a convertor that is usually worth more than the deck.
Last place I worked was broken into by some bright spark that decided to rip a bunch of jap decks out of evos.

buy it

i've bought a heap of alpine shit from both hong kong and the US, nmo dramas with any of it and its a shit load cheaper than local.

be aware that you will get no warranty from anyone though, so if it dies, you buy a new one....

any car audio i buy from now on will be off ebay and from OS

PS, haven't seen an issue with Jap radios since the early 90's

the radio tuners might not work within the correct range frequencies to even get channels from Australia.

for example jap radios operate above 100hz - so you could probably get jjj and that is about all.

One of my AW11 MR2's I imported from Japan had its original stereo / CD / tape deck and that most definately did not pick up any Australian channels on the FM band. Not sure about AM.

Interestingly it DID pick up the odd snippet of police, fire and ambulance radio traffic!!

I dont remember the exact price but I picked up a converter thingy from Jaycar...I'm a tight git so if it was more than pocket change I would have not bought it.

Talk to macey at westside car audio. I know alpine will offer dealers bulk quantity discounts etc and for the little more you will pay through him (still heaps less than retail) it might not be worth the hassle with no warranty.

My 2c.
