you will need to have itunes 9.2 installed. then open up itunes, do a restore and point the location to the 4.0gm firmware you just downloaded. With regards to the official release on Monday, its hard to tell. If nothing has changed then it probably won't ask for an upgrade. Worst comes to worse, if you want you could just download the office 4.0 firmware next week and do the same restore proccess through itunes.

EDIT: Ive managed to get a hold of the 4.0 GM custom firmware (jailbroken) version for the 3GS, attempting to install it now.

may need to register in order to see the 4 links, its free.

My phone is in the process of loading the new firmware now. Will keep you updated on how it goes.

Um not sure about the baseband, do you have the latest baseband?

smerm07 17-06-2010 10:59 PM

I can happily say that i have restored a jailbroken iOS 4.0 GM firmware file to my iphone 3gs 16gb (previously was on 3.1.3). Mutli-Tasking is awesome, the OS seems to run a little quicker than the v3 firmware. Will be interesting to see if there is any difference in battery life (better or worse).

MY99 17-06-2010 11:06 PM

Good stuff! Yeah I'm running the latest firmware and baseband - jail broken using spirit.

Did you have to restore yours to a unmodified 3.1.3 first or did you just restore using the hacked 4.0?
