Where do you keep you track car?
Hey there,
A friend and I have been talking about putting a few dollars aside and building a track car for a few years now, but we always seem to stumble over one thing - where do we keep the car when we are not using it? Where do you guys keep your cars? Do you all have access to massive garages or something? He lives in a set of town houses and my place is full of teenager's cars. We've looked at leasing a storage unit but the long term costs of doing that seem prohibitive, plus the access hours on some of them are ridiculous. Am I missing something? Anyone care to share your storage solutions before we give up on the idea before we get started? Cheers, Wrxpc |

I store mine at work. Full facilities including hoist and it is secure as. Makes it easy.
Other issue is moving it. i.e. you need something to tow it with and also a trailer. Where do you store the trailer and do you really want to use the tow vehicle as your daily? Even if it is registered the inevitable will happen and it will break down. Brendon

If it is going to be a shared car then I suggest you have a plan for how to deal with what you will do in any of the following situations BEFORE you put a cent into it and put it in writing.
1. One party wants out 2. One party damages/writes off the car 3. If one of you uses it significantly more how you account for consumables 4. One of you runs short of cash but the other doesn't want to stop using it in the meantime. 5. How you will decide who gets the car for what events. Haven't seen it done with a car but have seen many a partnership in sailplanes end in some pretty big arguments.

Thanks for the replies (and for the move - sorry mods!)
We have crossed a few of those questions off the list, but they are all good points, thanks. We are mostly thinking the Targa type stuff where we both get to drive, and sharing it at AHG days. We plan on keeping it registered so we don't have to worry about towing/trailers, good point about towing it home after breakdown/crashes though, we hadn't covered off that one. As for garaging at work - we are both desk jockeys, not place to store a car in the office Cheers, Wrxpc Last edited by wrxpc; 16-08-2009 at 09:20 PM. |

Buy a self storage unit - investment and place to keep car!
Find one that has full security and 24hr access. Made an offer on one on Friday.
