At my brother's wedding, the best man refused to give a speech, because that's the sort of best man that he was.
The MC told me I would have to do it. (I wasn't expecting to do one) I was quite drunk by then, so I had to do a Billy Connolly and just make stuff up. The crowd loved my speech (apparently) so I'd say go for no preparation and maximum inebriation..
