Just out of curiosity, does anyone here have solar panels or looked into getting them installed??
I've been wondering about how much power/money could be saved by using them, also how long it would take to re-coup the initial install costs. I guess I could just call the installers of these for their 'unbiased' response... Anyone?? |

mine are only around the 100 mark, with just me and my brother
mainly two computers on 24/7 and a lcd. gas hot water and stove for the win mate at work had his elec booster on 24/7 for hot water and his bill came in at 600+ he tested how much power this was using and turned everything off in his house and looked at the meter, the booster nearly tripled the power consumption over everything else |

Just got my latest,
$343 for a small 3x2 house, with two people. I tend to use the reverse cycle a lot, and have 2 computers but only an old CRT television... |

"does anyone here have solar panels or looked into getting them installed??" Yes. Send me a pm and you can come and see it. I keep weekly records of generation. They claim the 1kW unit will generate ~1600kWh over a year. After 11 months experience mine will be lucky to give 1500kWh for a year. With the cutback in the subsidy, you buy a solar panel for the warm fuzzy feeling you might get, it will not be a financial investment, even with the way electricity prices are going. and if you are a greenie, note that the low price to you depends on selling the 'green energy credits' so the power company that buys the credits can cut green production by that amount. |

Don't waste your time with rooftop PV systems. Payback is around 25 years (PV lifetime = 20 yrs) and cost of electricity with a solar system is 20+ c/kWh versus Synergy which is around 14c/kWh.
Fuck the environment, cheap coal ftw!

Fair enough too, I figured the tech wouldn't quite be there yet to make it worth while.
I'm all for burning fuels, keeps me in my job for longer! |

my old mans got a chunky $26k setup at his Marg river house - govt gave him 13k back and his power bills are pretty much $0 nowadays.. but 13k is still a lotta coin to outlay for some hippie bullshit...
nuclear power FTW
