from what i have read, somehow when the Eftpos machine sends out, the signal is intercepted and all your details (abn number, pin etc etc) are taken then they use those details to take your money, something like that

Yeah i had my savings account cleaned out on monday too. Cancelled my debit card and had one re-issued, not sure if i get the money back, have heard i might, but until it goes in then i will never know.

My advice to all, only ever have a small amount of money in a bank account linked to your card, and if you have to use it, transfer that amount onto your card before the purchase. Otherwise, carry cash around.

Todays paper had a story on this and one maccas store (kenwick) is
said to have had Some one come out and replace the eftpos terminals
and they weren't known to be legit as the manager never looked
into it!

The criminals are also said to install bugs in the terminals or even
tap into the phoneline that carrys the transaction details between the
POS and the banks.

Over $450,000 has been stolen from people in WA in this scam!

Got a call from NAB yesterday to inform me that my eftpos card had been compromised in the maccas scam and it was about to be deactivated, lucky for me i didn't have any money taken.

Know a few people who have not been as lucky though...
