Default Police plan drink-driving, hoon blitz

LOL drink driving blitz and The West throws in the word hoon for good measure.

Police plan drink-driving, hoon blitz
RONAN O'CONNELL, The West Australian November 30, 2009, 1:49 pm

Police will spend an extra 5,500 hours on WA's roads this holiday season in an effort to crack down on drink drivers and hoons.

Police Minister Rob Johnson said the Government had provided police with an extra $400,000 to pay overtime and boost the overall number of hours police spend on the road.

Police in marked and unmarked cars will target the back streets of Perth and regional centres.

The 5,500 patrol hours would be in addition to the existing police enforcement campaign and would result in the biggest ever crackdown on drink driving in WA.

Mr Johnson said $500,000 would also be used to boost the Anywhere, Anytime anti-drink driving advertising campaign.

"The main aim of this operation is to reinvent the 'anywhere, anytime' message to motorists who think they can run the gauntlet and take the back streets home if they have had too much to drink," he said.

"Anyone who tries this will make a very serious mistake. Obviously they run the risk of killing themselves, their passengers and other innocent road users. But whether they live in Cottesloe or Carlisle, Bunbury or Broome, they will also run a very high risk of getting caught and charged."

Yes, unfortunatley due to cut backs one officer has to hang out the window yelling "weeeewoooo weeewoooo" whilst the other trys to hit the car with a balloon on a stick.

From what i have seen of late in the peak hour, it appears they are using their own cars. Large array of all cars unmarked, with that nice light module on the dash.
