I've always believed the Aboriginal flag doesn't simply represents the aboriginal people. Often it's signifies an anti-Australian sentiment where white people are considered a scourge. I think most Australians are to terms with the fact that the Australian flag encompasses the native population also, yet they still must have a symbol that separates them from us. I think Google Australia took this into consideration.

As Tode said, Australia day isn't just about the native Australians... however, it's not just about us imports either.
The animals pictured in this case all represent Australia, just like the aboriginal flag is one of many symbols that repesents Australia... not the Australia that most people around here recognise, but Australia none the less.

However, the question still stands - Why does the cockatoo have a long colourful tail?
