Google. Racist?
This is the logo that won the "doodle 4 google" competition:
Yet, when you visit www.google.com, this is the logo you see: It's not until you click on the logo, that it takes you to a page with info about the competition, that you see the real logo. Any thoughts on why Google have chosen to remove the Aboriginal flag from the logo that is seen? Are they intentionally down-playing/ignoring the part the Aboriginal people have played in making Australia what it is?? I'm not interested in hearing "beacause they've done fuck all for this country" etc... (we have plenty of other threads like that). More so interested in hearing peoples thoughts on why Google have done this. Discuss.

Possibly they are trying to stay neutral as in trying not to
offened anyone by putting up a non national white Australia flag which understandable, however at the same time not right and should have put up the winning logo no matter which flag was on it. I feel for the artist who's winning logo has been modified.

Funnily enough, the koala, cockatoo and snake aren't national symbols either.

Why does the Aboriginal flag have to be there anyway? Personally, I don't think the aboriginal people reflect what modern Australia is all about anyway these days. Especially when a large proportion of Aborigines consider this day to be "Invasion Day". I even had a few come into my shop today touting "Happy Invasion Day"
And its Google's site. It doesn't have to be made up of national flags, symbols, or animals. They can do whatever the hell they want because its their freedom to do so.

What I find odd is that it was a competition to design a logo, the winning logo happened to feature an aboriginal flag, and google it appears have chosen to remove it. I was just interest is all. "At Google, we like to reflect the ever-changing world of our users through the logo designs on our homepage. These ‘doodles’ celebrate different people, events or special dates and are designed by our original Doodler, 30-year-old Dennis Hwang. For the second time, we asked young people from across Australia to design their own doodle. This year’s theme was ‘My wish for Australia’. We were curious to learn how young people want the future of Australia to look like. The best doodles were voted on by the public, and the overall winner will be shown on the Google Australia homepage on Australia Day in 2010, to be viewed by millions of people."

I'm sure they would have got the permission of the original artist

And as Wayne pointed out, most likely to stay "neutral". I still find it odd that they've done so, and in my opinion is blatantly spineless, ignorant and pathetic.

I think its pretty poor! they shouldn't have chose it as the winner if they didn't want to show it.
