The ghost plates don't work all the time anyway (I have emails to prove it from pissed off people, one who thought he had bought it from me)

**edit - Sorry for double post*

No, this will have zero effect on Poliscans.
I'm not going to write an essay as to why but I guarantee you it won't work.

I came across a multanova today (21 November 10) -

http://www.vimeo.com/17047943

They still have them about (were suppose to replace with the Poliscan months ago), maybe using both to raise big $$$ revenue...

^ They're phasing out the Multanovas in WA - they haven't been replaced altogether. I've seen a few of them over the last month so they're definitely still active. What radar detector is that?

I've run into a few Poliscans with my V1 recently:

1) Hepburn Avenue east bound after Wanneroo Road.
Warning distance: 500m+ with the V1.
There was no traffic and the camera on a slight angle to the road.

2) Mitchell Freeway South after the Powis Street on ramp.
Warning distance: Approximately 120m with the V1 which is pretty poor.
There was a lot of traffic on the road but more importantly, the camera looked to be on a significant angle to the road (closer to 45 degrees than parallel).

3) Wanneroo Rd north bound before Beach Rd. See video below.
Warning distance: Approximately 300m with the V1.
There was no traffic and the camera on a slight angle to the road.

Note how the V1 begins to pick up laser scatter from the rear when it gets within 100m of the camera. Is this the signal scatter within the car which is hitting the rear antenna or is it from objects behind the car? If it is the latter, then why are we struggling to get any decent warning on a rear setup? The scatter should work in the same way...

Its a Bel 990 and was quite good with multanovas as you could select individual frequencies within the Ka band, i.e just the 34.3GHz for higher sensitivity. The laser detection performance is not that impressive on the Bel - not like the V1 that is the best laser sensing detector.

You have a good warning on the Poliscans with the V1. I have found some placements I get a bit of advance warning, others it is minimal.
The worst on the freeway locations giving minimal advance warning if any, suppose going a faster speed doesn't help as less reaction time.

Interesting on the rear scatter pickup first, If the detector was mounted the same level as the Poliscan, you would expect a front warning first.

Does anyone know the height from the ground of the Poliscan laser? As they are on the verge, this will add approx 15 cms. Not sure if the tripod legs are adjustable.

Matt

Just doing some calcs, I assume you would need 2 seconds minimum reaction time from an alert to drop say 10-15kph
at 70kph = 38metres
at 100kph = 52 metres
at 120kph = 66 metres

So Poliscan measures anything between 15-75 metres (40m from what jezzamcbezza was told) so you would need an alert minimum of

at 70kph = 78metres - 113metres
at 100kph = 92 metres - 127metres
at 120kph = 106 metres - 141 metres

990 - good stuff! The V1 has been able to provide plenty of warning against the Poliscan

On the video above, the V1 only began to alert to the rear only when within 100m of the camera - it did alert to the front first. I'd say that there was a lot more scatter than normal as I've never seen it do that before. It's definitely a good thing that it's picking up rear scatter as it provides us with hope against rear facing setups.

The tripod does have adjustable legs. I've seen one set up at around 1.5m.
