Awesome. Might go buy one, then. I wonder what stocks are like?
Don't really need it, but i want it (same can be said for car parts!) What kind of plans are you guys on? I've only skimmed over various providers.

Vodafone are doing some pretty wicked plans. They sent me an email the other day. $49 unlimited is what I recall

There are also a lot of 'fanboys' who just buy Apple products for the sake of it but I can assure you that most of the 1 million+ buyers in the US didn't fall into that category either! It's a discretionary luxury good - people can certainly live without it but once you get one, you'll find many uses for it.

I've had a iPhone for a few years now. Couldn't live without it. Would be hard to find another phone that has the same capability, mine is jailbroken though.
In terms of the iPad, I don't think i will buy one - I don't see how it would fit into my lifestyle, but for people who don't have a laptop etc, want portability it would be great. For business, I could definitely see it replacing laptops/tablets out on the road and using the 3G into a Citrix/Xenapp/VPN/Remote Desktop type situation. Our reps use Dell 3G Tablets, some with SSD and some not. From experience, all mobile devices in terms of laptops that are used for business and are out on the road a lot really do need to be SSD for reliability, Or if it's a mechanical hard drive, have the anti-shock feature to protect the hard disk when the device is bumping around in the car. The main issue about using an iPad for business is that you would pretty much *have* to be online/getting a signal to connect into your systems. If you have a big sales force that travel into regional areas, this would potentially be a problem. The only way around that would be to have an App written and developed for your business, which would be pretty insane and not workable for a large corporation who uses an application such as Siebel for their front-end sales platform.

I think the way web apps are being designed for the ipad is awesome. Not having flash support doesn’t seem to affect too many people. It’s definitely an addition to a computer. You couldn't solely live with just an ipad, so all its limitations are really irrelevant.
However I won't be buying one. Not yet anyway. I can't justify having one as well as a perfectly functioning small laptop computer. Also, I'm still a fan of the old school book. It looks much nicer on a bookshelf once you're done reading |

I got too many books now. No more room on the bookshelves. Good excuse for iPad!

Well, I said I didn't want one... But came home yesterday with a 64gig iPad
Played with them instore and I was amazed at the speed. Shits on my iPhone 3GS for speed. Screen is really crisp and clear (but smudges up with my fingerprints - but they are only visable when the screen is off). Apps are amazing. Pages, Numbers, Keynote are awesome for touching up documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Autodesk Sketchbook is great for using the iPad as a tablet and drawing. News applications such as The Australian and BBC News are brilliant to use. It's like a 1 page newspaper. Main stories and blurb on the front, click to expand. iBooks has the whole Guttenberg collection for free online. Games for iPad are awesome (Angry Birds HD, Flight Control HD, Geometry Wars, Labyrinth 2 HD etc). RDP to my desktop to look ubernerd too. iBooks are easy to flip through and a good size for reading. Battery life seems great so far too. Downsides... Lack of Facebook app makes baby jeebus cry. Expanding iPhone apps to the screen size is just gay. It's heaver than I thought. Everyone wants to use it! For me, this will replace a lot of equipment I have lying around (Macbook Air, 2 x HP lappys, 1 x Desktop). It won't replace a laptop, but is great for the quick things you need to do. I wouldn't sit there writing up a document or spreadsheet on it, but rather use it for review purposes.
