Default Sciatica

Gday PWRXers,

Now I realise asking medical advice on a car forum is pretty silly but I was wondering If any of you have had trouble with sciatica. Its basicaly means something is putting pressure on a nerve ending in your lower back and I get pain shooting down my left leg, which is a bitch when you have to drive a manual .
Ive had back back problems previously and the doc said it has caused the sciatica. Im taking some anti-inflammatrys that the doc prescribed and it is getting slowly better but Im also pondering some pysio also.

Anyone else sufferered from this and has any advice or remedies that worked for them?

Cheers

Yes I've had it, yeah it SUCKS!

anti-inflammatories helped a lot, as did pain killers.

Physio worked for me, I had about 6 sessions before the inflammation went down & the nerve untweaked itself.

I had my physio done at St john of god sport medicine....excellent & about $60 a session.

Throw a towel or something similar over a door & hang off it to stretch and take the pressure off your lower back, may help over time.

I know a few guys at work who have had this on/off and they all seem to think that physio is a definite go'er

Physio / Chiro is only going to stretch / manipulate lower back hip area to help mobilise so you may aswell try some of the stretches to see if this is going to alleviate the problem.
If it works you save some cash, if it doesn't go see someone.
You'll find that the Physio will prescribe said stretches as an on going management regime anyway...

Apart from seeing this sort of stuff everyday two fractured vertebrae and a year in a back brace gave me some first hand experience

Chiro certainly helped for me, but what I find now is a good deep tissue massage once a month has made most of the difference and chiro is now not necessary. Losing a few kilos helped too.....
