Yeah the photos don't really show it, you can see a clear build up of rust at one particular point thats thinned out the steel and caused it to fatigue.

Bad luck Josh.

So how many problems has the Ford had opposed to the WRX in the same time frame?

Dan,

XR has done 52,000kms, so based on the first 52k I did in the rex, it only had a fuel pump issue and bare in mind I bought the rex as a 3yr old car with 92,000kms on the clock.

The tailshaft is the 8th issue in my ownership if I recall correctly, well actually there are 9 now because my aircon isnt working since I picked it up yesterday. I bought it with 8000kms as an ex Ford Credit vehicle from the east, which is why I've emailed Ford Customer Relations requesting contribution towards a new vehicle if I were to trade in or a warranty extension on this one.

Very disappointing for a car with such low kms and so much potential.

Thought that would be the case Josh.

It sounds very similar to my woes with the ford I had. Low K's and an enormous amount of problems.

Best thing you can do is burn the fucking thing and don't ever buy Australian again

I broke a $800 "good for 500hp" tailshaft in my R32 pulling out onto stock rd in peak hour traffic in front of a loaded semi trailer ....
