Hi all,

A few weeks ago I bit the bullet and got myself a 13" mac book pro.
I can't believe I didn't do this years ago!

As I'm still getting both my hands and head around os x I'm wondering what software, applications or widgets are a must for the mac?

So far I've got

• aperture 3
• parian codec pack for quicktime
• vlc (was hoping that CCCP would have a package for the mac by now >.<)
• SizeUp
• Middleclick
• Caffeine
• iStat Pro
• Easy 7zip
• Cog

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Mac the ripper ( DVD extraction )
Handbrake ( video converter )
Adium ( instant messaging )
VLC ( for all those movies QuickTime won't do )

I'm sure there are a few more but not looking at the lappy ATM.

it's free and is basically Microsoft Office for Mac. Since it's open source, it's been improved by many many people over time.
I've had no problems with spreadsheets (eg open an excel doc and it's all formatted correctly). however, I can't say the same for word documents.

still, it's free and will do many many things for you.

Haven't tried opening any office 2007 documents with this have you?
