They do, but depends on what speed the cyclone is moving. Since this cyclone is moving pretty fast (35km/h), it doesn't spend enough time in one place to intensify...so really it loses alot of its power the faster it goes.

I remember when I lived up in the Pilbara for 14 years (in good ole Wickham) we had one that sit off the coast for a day or so moving at about 5 km/h and built from a Cat 3 to a Cat 5, then swung into the coast. Good times.....lol

It will only be a catagory 1 by the time it gets here.
I doubt it will be much more than a freaking awesome thunderstorm show.

It will be just a bit of wind n rain, not much stronger (if any) to a storm in perth... when it passed karratha on aus day it was the weakest thing id ever seen... haha just lots of rain. flooded work so bonus lol

Damo69 your correct that they build up over water and DamoESP your correct that they have to be moving slow, they also need warm water, something perth does not have. So even if it was moving slow it would still die slowly in the cold ocean, when moving fast they die quicker, so bit of luck and you will just get lots of rain

It was a very dense cyclone this Bianca... it passed us off the coast within 70nm (i think) and we didnt get any wind to worrie about, if it goes south of perth where it is saying, perth wont see any of the wind, just rain

My thoughts.

Coooool. Time to check insurance & make sure everything's locked away.

I guess we may be exempt from the 'flood tax' if it hits.

It'll just be some water. No chance of having your donga picked up and moved a few meters...
