Default Accommodation - Derby

Hey guys,

The mrs and I are heading to Broome again this year and this time we are thinking of heading a bit further up to check out Windjana Gorge.

We are staying at The Oaks in Broome, but wouldn't mind one night near Derby so we are closer to the gorges etc. But from what I've found online, all the accommodation in Derby is fucking terrible to say the least, does anyone have any suggestions of places to stay for an overnight stop (we would head back to Broome the next day)

Cheers,
Josh

we rented a Landy camper with rooftop tent and did heaps of gorges along the gibb river rd. I reckon that's the way to go if you want to do it properly as some gorges are 4wd access only. Only stopped by Derby woolies to buy food and a pair of thongs and got the hell out of there before the locals mugged me for them. I highly recommend spending 1 (just 1) night in Fitzroy Crossing for pure entertainment value.

^ Yeah I did the whole kimberley's with my family when I was younger, will do it again as a big driving trip in the next year or so.

Mainly just wanted to take my fiance to see at least one gorge because she's never travelled up that way. Took her to Broome last year and she loved it but would like to include Windjana at least this time.

Looks like driving up from Broome and back is the go.

Just dry along Cable beach a couple times a day,
She'll see HEAPS of Gorges... Heaps of valley's... Heaps of other flat ugly old stuff too...

Seriously, lived in broome for over a year, Derby isn't that bad, drove up their weekly for work.. The King Sound isn't too bad, 80's style, but nice people and food.

Fuck driving the 2 hour up and back in a day if you want to see gorges aswell. you need to drive atleast an hour up the gibb to see anything decent.. so bear that in mind, and hire a suitable vehicle, depending on when your going the Gibb can be fun to say the least...
The town of Derby can be done in half an hour, might even see a croc up at the port...
