Default $400 per set top box install

Well I am pissed off as this government seems to waste our money every single budget! For those who do not know what I'm on about the government will pay up to $400 for the supply and install of a set top box to all pensioners = $308 million cost....fark!!!

boxes dont cost anymore than $20 to $30 and it takes 30 minutes max to "install" one. Anyways I'm off to get a installers ticket and will be targetting some local grannies for easy cash!

Is this serious?

How the hell is this worth money over so many other more urgent issues? How many pensioners are still rocking old tvs with no kids/grandkids to setup digital for them?

My mate and I were talking about this yesterday, complete fkn joke. They should've just approached JB HiFi or one of the big retailers to supply 32" HD LCd's for them all, and said they wanted them supplied and installed for $400, I'm sure when you're buying that sort of volume one of the big name retailers would've done it.

I completely agree, it is such a waste of money that could be spent in so many other areas that would help everyone cope with the rising cost of living.

It's a budget black hole. In the end the money won't get spent there - it'll be appropriated somewhere else.

Regardless, a lot of money will be spent on contractors doing sfa.

Edit - is it a direct payment? Don't know all the details.
