Hmmm, just did a read-up on the old Centre... says it was built in 1974?? I thought it was much later than that, but I 'spose the media can't be wrong!

Here's a scan of one of those "giant" postcards I bought from a Perth newsagent in 1982... but it seems to show the Entertainment Centre when it was quite new. Judging from the CBD buildings that existed at time of this pic, can anyone put a date on it?

^^ Looks like they are beginning construction of the R&I tower (currently the Bankwest Building) - so when was that?

Hell no, the R&I tower was built around 85/6. There is no landscaping near the Ent Cent so it could be early as 75 I reckon. Not sure what that building under construction is though. Oh the R&I tower was originally the BOND tower.

eta: that's a great pic btw, so many things I remember in it.
The old carriage sheds at Perth station, freight cars still being there, the Boans buikding and the old Forrest place before it was turned into what we have now.

Read the list of concerts there - the first ones were held in 75. So building in 74 makes sense.

You can see the Telstra exchange being constructed on Wellington street - this was finished in '79 so a few years prior ...maybe taken in 1977 ?

That ugly blue LEGO looking building on the Terrace, was that called Allendale Square?
That was a dated looking relic if ever there was one!

Edit; The old bus terminal on Wellington St brings back memories. My grandmother used to take me into the city on the bus as a kid, the smell of ciggarettes, dough-nuts and diesel fumes is a awesome combination!

I think I can just make out someone getting stabbed on Lake Street in Northbrige.
Perth hasn't changed much.

Nah, pretty sure Allendale is the tallest silver building in left of pic. But yeh, as for that blue thing (still there isn't it?), ugliest piece of architecture fail in Perth CBD history. Assuming we are talking about the same building, the one slightly to right of pic centre? If so, then it's actually on Hay St.

Yeah, it had the blue fiberglass panels with the windows built into them, eventually painted a fawn colour on the corner of Hay & King, pretty sure it's apartments now and has a really popular bar/lunch bar opposite His Majesty's.

Bond tower ( his first one was at either 8 or 12 St Georges Tce ) is still a pub, I remember them loading kegs down the ramp in William St up till the early 80's.

Yes Doug, I do remember the horse & carts & Langley park being our first airport..................Before you get in "carnt".

I drove past the other week and they were smashing up the circular ramps on the east side

so many memories from that place, as you said - the smell of diesel and donuts!
