Ahh I just disabled add blocker and... voila!

The mysterious gap is filled by an add that used to be blocked. I was never aware.

Actually in hindsight it seems the gap seems to appear and disappear in different threads I've posted in. Perhaps it is just my browser (Google Chrome) doing something funny every now and then. The text I quoted previously does not have a gap in it.

Ah well as long as you guys don't notice it and it's just on my screen it doesn't really bother me...
