'climb'

You have sherpas carrying all your gear, all of the difficult sections are either roped or have ladders bolted into the rock face. Some 60 yo Rolling Stone journalist with virtually no experience was getting lots of praise for peaking a few years ago, until it was discovered she was tied to two sherpas who practically dragged her up the mountain! It's still a huge achievement if you climb Everest, but only if you actually climb it, as opposed to getting carried up the mountain. There are way too many climbing gumbies out there and as long as they have the $$ someone will take them to the top. Hence the reason there are so many deaths.

I completetly agree with you...it's the chellange you set yourself in life and if you're happy to get carried up the mountain and claim you've conquered it...good on you. CSR in a 4wd with 5 other cars doesn't seem like a big deal these days but do it on a trail bike or even a push bike...

I on the other hand prefer to spend my holidays differently, i can drink piss and sit by the pool anytime so in my spare time i prefer to set myself these goals (which quite often are only limited by the amount of time and money i have).

whatever ways ONE prefers to spend their free time and as long as it makes them happy....then who cares.

long beach cafe for dinner eveynight rocks (there are a heap of differnt stalls to buy food from ranging from curry to stirfries to bangers & mash, heaps of selection, all the food is very fresh & bloody delicious

walking back from long beach cafe to park royal there are heaps of nightmarkets setup along the roadside, great for buying clothes, watches, handbags,wallets,toys etc etc haggling for a good preice is fun

kahleels indian restaurant opposite eden plaza is just the best curry i've had in my life, try the red crispy chicken... its the bomb

on the beach ask for an indian bloke with a big merv hughes mo called ghandi, he will sort you out with cheap jetski and parasailing

there is a small alley next to the goldensands hotel, go and see leang for the best chinese food ever, i got hooked on the sizzling prawns here LOL

gurney plaza is a 20minute cab ride form the park royal, great shopping here, 7 floors of designer label shops, keep an eye out for sales, sometimes 70% off retail, go to kenny rogers chicken & big apple dohnuts whilst you're there

For sure. I guess the only problem I have with gumbies climbing mountains is that there are a lot of deaths, not only of the inexperienced climbers, but also experienced climbers and sherpas who end up having to try and save them.

You can do the guided base camp climb for about $3K (not inc. airfares) which takes 19 days. Something I'm looking into, reckon it would be an amazing experience.

A few of mine, went for Xmas/New Years.. Agree with your earlier post, amazing place. I'll go back for my honeymoon one day I think.

CSR is still a challenge, but probably not as big a challenge as it would have been in the early 80s. Did it a couple of years ago, and missed the Carnarvons due to another vehicles issues.

We're hoping the trip to Cape York the year after next, still is worthwhile.
