Default Mac Nerds: Time Capsule + iTunes + AppleTV

Hi guys and gals,

I'm wondering if this is possible...

I was thinking of getting a Time Capsule (since it also has wifi/ethernet ports to extend coverage in the house).

But, I want to know if I can store my iTunes library on it instead of on my mac. Then can my AppleTV access the Time Capsule iTunes library to play content? This would allow me to have the mac switched off and free up some valuable hard drive space.

Any other solutions appreciated!

In iTunes preferences you can designate your iTunes folder. I have mine setup on a Window7 shared folder.

Timemachine software takes control of HD partition - having not used a hardware timemachine I'd suggest that as long as you can create more than one partition that can be accessed as a networked drive it should be possible.

Yup, my main issue is if the AppleTV can talk to it. AFAIK the ATV needs a computer running iTunes to serve the media, seeing if the Time Capsule can do this...

To the best of my knowledge you'll have to use your mini as the server. Timemachine won't act as a media server.

If you have the mini on early energy conserve with wake on LAN it shouldn't consume huge amounts of electricity and storage stops being an issue.
