Diamond is:
A crystal made up of 99.95% pure carbon atoms arranged in an isometric, or cubic, crystal arrangement. It is this unique arrangement of the carbon atoms that makes diamond look and behave differently from other pure carbon minerals such as graphite (the soft black material used to make pencils).

diamond is a non-metallic element...carbon...
its the hardest naturally occuring substance but that doesn't mean it can smash through walls...

I think they contained lead up until the 60's-70's, after that it was graphite. There is a much bigger demand for lead in the production of containers for storing uranium and uranium by-products

They took it out coz of all them kids that like to chew on pencils... rather toxic.

Probably right. They have to cut them somehow to fit into diamond rings so they are not invincible.

A car made of diamond would be way too heavy anyways. And if the car smashed into the wall with you in it, if the car didn't break I'm pretty sure you would, because you'd be flung out of the seat and smack into the diamond windscreen!

you won't have a dimaond car to start with, no matter how rich you are, because there is not a single piece of diamond thats large enuff to make a car out of,
if you join small pieces together, then the joint will break when you crash.
quite pointless.

mythbuster time!!!!!

u can "borrow" the fist sized diamond from HRH Queen Elizabeth II (i think its in the tower of london somewhere) and sort of carve it to make it look like a car and smash it on a brick wall...

Ok I'm definately drunk now....

Why stop at just testing a diamond car?

How about testing a Corundum (#9 on Mohs Hardness Scale, Diamond is #10) or Topaz (#8)? It would be cheaper to test these against a wall as they are not as expensive as diamond!

Diamond is not metal. Diamonds as stated before are made up of carbon atoms, where 3 C atoms are bonded together to form a diamond compound.

Enough chemistry/geology for 6:10am.
