Diamond is a compound (based on the carbon element).

Sure, it's strong, but that's just insane. I love it when people base all their information on old episodes of MacGyver....

Yes, for all those that didn't do chem (not that i actually paid any attention to the teacher in year 11, too busy perving on the legs in front :P), diamond is a metal!

does it matter wether or not dimond is a metal??? it's a stupid fucking post suggesting a dimond car would be able to go thru a wall. for one, the car wld cost the same as americas yearly bugget, and secondly who trys to see if their car will survive if the drive thru a wall.... i say give them a dimond ring and see if they survive going thru a wall on a motor bike lol
bty i don't think a dimond is a metal i agree with the post above saying its a carbon compound. dimonds are formed in the same sortta way as rocks so i wld say they are a combo between a compound and a rock... but then again i'm not a geologist

i think diamond carries some sort of crystalline atom structure. ie. it has uniform bonding pattern. i'm not convinced it belongs to the metal group, but yea, carbon and diamond are related.. hm.. mid semester exam .. better start study..
