Default Freeway Ramp Signals - Is this a good idea or another Chairsniffer fail

Troy "Chairsniffer" Buswell is proposing to Freeway Ramp Signals be installed to improve traffic flow. Do you think this is a good idea or just another Chairsniffer fail ?
Freeway test for on-ramp lights - The West Australian

The Vics did this back in 2002 so its not like this is an original idea LOL

I was living in America when they started to use these.

the general Freeway flow DOES inmprove.... but its normally at the cost of time acctaully getting to the freeway.

With lights at the freeway onramps traffic can bank up pretty good if you dont have enough lanes for the onramp.

Overall you dont acctaully get anywhere any faster.... and if you do it is very marginal. Waste of money imo

So move the congestion a little further back?

Why dont we try teaching people to merge to improve the flow?

yeah- just moves the congestion into the roads feeding the freeways,

in vic they only operate during peak time anyway, but at that time, the freeway is already congested...

i dont see a huge gain.

Agree the ramps we have here are way too short for this to work.

Increase minimum speed limit on the freeway to 100 and use cameras to flash offenders and fine them is my suggestion.

too much chair sniffing has got to his head.

Teach people how to drive on the freeway. Keep left unless overtaking, do NOT undertake, learn2merge and general driving manners and we'll be ok!
