Geoff's is a GC8 with built motor, 6 speed, brembos, full suspension etc isnt it?

Flett is Master D - his car is fairly stockish iirc.

Totally agree. Too many people make comments against FWD cars yet for the driving 99% of them do they would barely notice a difference.

Megane RS and VW Scirocco R are two of the most fun affordable cars I've driven and both are FWD.

Modern technology is pretty good

I see I am mentioned!

My car is stock apart from a rear swaybar and better pads.

Thats some good driving for a stock car! That running semi-slicks?

By comparison the XR5 is slower but driving skill can be worth way more than a few seconds (as can tyres). But to be within 3 seconds of an STi is still pretty good going.

MasterD can you remember the XR5 at all and give comment on mods?

the xr5's torque limiting front lsd does exactly that, so if your keen to get a car that goes alright stock & is engineered to handle & corner adequately by reducinging the power/torque to the drive wheels, by all means go for it

just don't expect it to be like a wrx/sti ie. when you throw a bigger turbo more boost etc etc the handling of the car is determined by the suspension setup not electronic wizardry reducing power so it doesn't torque steer you off the road

just my opinion to all the fwd lovers i've had a couple myself & they corner great unless you have to lift off mid corner LOL

op never said what the purpose of the car was , but seeing that this is perth-wrx where the norm is modding things to get moar power/better handling

masterD was using road tyres - his car is STi though so may account for something...
