A $300 desk chair in Bunbury is something you'd build a house around. I expect he was hoping to pass it on to his grandchildren.

Appreciate the constructive input from early posters, but more recent posts... What is this, Troll City?

If it was a $70 chair (like my first one), it would be sitting out on the verge right now. But it wasn't. Maybe some of you don't have to feed a family of 7, service a mortgage etc... but I don't consider it unreasonable that a $300 chair should last a fair bit longer than 2 years.... My huge-arsed solid wood dining table and 10 chairs only cost me a grand, all in perfect condition and over 4 years old now.

Booga and DAN682, that's what is called fraud, and a criminal offence. Dunno if I would be comfortable admitting this on a public forum. Refer Section 409 Criminal Code.

As for the chair itself, went into OfficeWorks and they actually sell a universal fit gas-lift (for most chairs) as a stock item off the shelf for $9.98. So, I'm all good now, ten bucks is even cheaper than the cost of extended warranty.

So, before you chuck that otherwise good chair onto the verge for hard waste collection, remember that a new gas-lift could save you a lotta $$$ for chair replacement.

As above, you get what you pay for.

$300 will get you a run of the mill no name Taiwan / China made chair sold out of places such as Office works.

I endeavoured with shit chairs for years and then forked out for a properly fitted chair from Chairtech in North Perth.

Was keen on an Ergo Human but the mesh was too light weight for me. Ended up with an Artia Venus Executive and almost 2 years on, it still feels new and I have more than enough thigh support (which I found lacking in other chairs).

I do love how a $300 chair is now considered a cheap piece of shit.

If anything I find the 'balla' chairs crap as there are too many adjustment points.

Personally, trial fitting the chair to your butt is the only way to tell if a chair is good imo.

P.S. Good work on the fix. I've found the castors go on the cheap chairs, so I just keep a bag of spares.

Getting a chair shop to adjust it for you means it works out perfectly.. That's what I did when I bought mine, and it's spot on.

Had all the ergonomics people charge an arm and a leg to set chairs and desks up. May have been scientifically awesome, but felt crap.

It was more so that a price tag / name brand does not equal a better fitting chair imo. Test fit your bum in the chair to find the one that suits. My current chair is just a $400-500 item from an office furniture supplier (not office works!) and it is more comfortable than some of the $1k ones I tried.

I spent an hour at the shop test sitting my chair - I bought a magazine to read. It then took me about a week of fine tuning the adjustments to get it perfect for me - never touched it since (1 yr later) and I no longer have any back/neck/shoulder pain.

Also, the chair is only 1 part of it - you need to get your desk, keyboard, monitor height/distance, correctly positioned too.
