With such a high compression ratio they'll never be able to generate a decent increase without a piston getting a hole pinged through it.
Some of the groups that have been playing around with the stock engine have been able to get some impressive (also worrying) numbers.
Been out of the loop for a while so I'm not too sure if any one has finally managed to pop one of these engines...

you cant compare dyno from USA to AUS, you will never get the same results

Willall Racing in SA has an 86 NA that whipping a lot of the turbo charged cars in a recent hillclimb...I can see the value of an extra 20 kw atw just the same.

Dyno of the brz I mentioned earlier...I believe done a s&j in adelaide. 108kw baseline and 165kw after turbo kit on 6psi. Had perrin exhaust from turbo back and at that time no fuel mods. Think he has since got injectors and pump and the 8psi actuator that is part of the "stage 2" kit. I would (and hopefully will) certainly be happy with an extra 60kw from a bolt on turbo kit maybe 70 kw with the new mods.

Am quite aware of this, but there are some large gains that have been demonstrated so far.
This is all that I was pointing out.

Hmmm i think i might need to start burning the candle at both ends again.

Thanks people.. nice to know that the BRZ/86 are starting to become more common.
How does it go?
They go ok with the base map that AVO provide. The tune is soft, no boost. About the same as a stock WRX to drive.

I don't like the stability control, traction control and that if you left foot brake the throttle drops to zero, very unsettling mid corner.

The other thing I dislike is the stupid push button start. You can't lean in the window when working on the car to start it, the doors are too long to get into the car when it's on a hoist, the steering locks as soon as the engine stops. etc. What was wrong with a key? Give me a base spec 86 over a BRZ.

I don't get why it's getting hate it's one of the nicest cars I've seen recently... But I like the Mazda 3 too so my opinion isn't valid ;)
