Toyota Avalon might be another to consider. They're very vanilla but get the 3.0L V6 and are quite roomy.

eg: 2002 Toyota Avalon Sedan | Cars, Vans & Utes | Gumtree Australia Canning Area - Canning Vale

2003 Toyota Avalon MCX10R MKII Advantage White 4 Speed Automatic Sedan | Cars, Vans & Utes | Gumtree Australia Mandurah Area - Mandurah

Thanks again for the suggestions everyone...

Hey where do you guys take regular cars for the pre purchase inspection?

Back in the day it was RAC but they are crap right?

RAC are, or were, good
not sure if they still do inspections.
Problem with RAC in my experience is too much detail on the obvious like-
seats worn, paint faded, tyres just legal.
Best to go to someone who knows that make of car so you get told- clutch will go in a few months and this is what the replacement will cost you.

Rac cover to a max of $500 when I got mine done a few years ago. Waste of time, take it to a mechanic you trust

The Avalon has to be one of the most unimaginative, dreary, boring cars ever produced.
Patch likes this.

Avalons are shit - GF's dad has one. Have driven. Would rather be locked in a room with Burke thats how bad it is. No power, handles like a tank, foot pedal operated handbrake, not even comfortable. Heap of shit. Not to mention for an early 2000's car the interiors look like mid 90's.

I'd rather drive an Avalon with 20" chrome rims than this...

What about a 4wd? Like a Patrol/cruiser you can still get a decent one for 10k
Can also go off road and later on tow your sti to track days/workshop etc
