Default How to Access Data from S3 Without Rout

Dear All,

The screen on my s3 doesn't work 'but the phone still does', and I want to transfer some data from it to a temp phone.

The phone is locked therefore not showing the folders within the s3 drive.

What is the easiest way to unlock/view/transfer the files from my original s3 to a computer so I can then transfer to another device 'if you could make the process as simple as possible it would be greatly appreciated'.

I am going to have a fiddle with Samsung Galaxy Toolkit and see if I can get it to do what I want, other than that I will have to wait till I'm back in Australia to do a warranty claim on my original phone.

Cheers,

Have you checked the appropriate forum on xda developers?
There are some tools that may assist you in retrieving data off the unit.
From memory to back up data you need a program like titanium backup as well as root access.

Cheers for the additional information Soksta but I think using a public access computer for something as immaterial as a data dump may not give the best impression.

Had Samsung Toolkit running and it looked like a scene out of Hackers which prompted the attention of the owner/managers.

TL;DR: be more careful next time or bring a laptop as well.

Cheers,

Not a problem.

The XDA Forums is an online knowledge base, so accessing it shouldn't get you in trouble.
If you like, PM me the model number (should be ixxxx) and I'll have a look tonight/over the weekend to see if I can locate something that might help you.

I am in the same situation with my S4, the only way I have found to get around it is to have another phone the same model and open the cases. You can then undo the screen cable from one motherboard and jump it to the motherboard of the other phone. Then you can unlock the screen and back it up. This way you only have to undo a few screws and unclip the plastic cover on it and there is no need to pull both phones to pieces.
