Default Multanovas

I was driving down Hayman Road this afternoon, heading South at approximately 3:50 pm. As i approached the Curtin busport, I noticed a Multanova in front of a lightpole, as well as a man in a bright yellow worksafe vest holding a handheld speed gun.

I had just come out of Curtin and made sure I didn't go over 60. I looked at my speed as I approached the Multanova and it read between 55 and 60kmh, so I wasn’t bothered. Yet when I was almost past it, it flashed.

I’m sure there was no roadworks speed limit sign either, so I’m not sure why I got flashed.

It seemed very strange that there was a hand held camera held by someone who wasn’t in uniform, along with what appeared to be a standard Multanova unit. I’m just hoping they were testing it out, but why I’d get flashed is beyond me. The unit seemed to flash when I was very close as well, but I didn’t think the car that was behind me was close enough to be the one being flashed..

The only other thing I could think of is that they were testing the unit for firing in both directions, as the car going the other way seemed to be going a but faster than normal... I heard something about rear firing cameras but surely it would be on the opposite side of the road

WTF is going on? I'm gonna be very pissed if I have been targeted, but really since they changed the burden of proof, I can't see anything but to cop it. It really pisses me off cause obviously there is an insurance penalty as well for something I haven't done

You will find that the camera was just being tested for correct speed settings camera angle etc.......
Wouldn't worry too much!

relax man, i think they're only testing/calibrating the camera. that explains why there is a dude with a hand held speed gun as well.

i've been flashed a couple of times with no speeding and no surrounding cars, and never got fined.

so i think you'll be ok.

all the multinova operators carry a hand held, as they are required to calibrate the camera before its put ino use. I'd say you were probably the victim of nothing more than a test.

Kewlies, Thanks guys. I was getting a bit worried that maybe there actually WAS a temporary speed sign which I MISSED (which is an even greater worry)
