Vista is going to be worth the wait... Unfortunately, not all the features from earlier alpha builds and functionality promised by Microsoft will be in it when it releases...

However, the Aero graphics are quite nice, the OS is a lot more secure, as they have tried to make it more like linux (it gets annoying installing "unknown" applications though). Lots of new networking abilities have finally made it through too. And for the gamers Direct X 10.

Office 2007 has a new interface as well, which is quite nice, but I am glad I don't have to train people to use a new system

Basically it seems that Microsoft have "copied" all the bits that work from linux and OSX and incorporated them into Windows.

There's not too much wrong with xp home. Infact if you change the boot up screen to xp pro, not many people will ever pick the difference.

The same thing is going to happen when vista comes out. Everyone will "want" the ultimate edition, when a lesser edition will be more than suitable.

Why?

Apart from allowing crippling DRM, what is it going to do for me that I can't do now with a FreeBSD or *Nix box? Or even a Win2k or XP box?

I haven't seen anything on Vista that is actually a "must have" feature. It's a fuckin' joke.

Making the switch to Apple shortly anyway.. fuck Vista.

Cheers for that patcher site.. very neat for those with not quite ligit versions.

Also this things cool.. kinda like a widget. Apparently it was leaked by the MS team so they could get feedback on the feature as it will come std in Vista. It's like the mac interface where it gives you a preview window of your open tasks.

Hey everyone is entitled to their own opion. I happen to like Gentoo more than XP.

Ok maybe I should have clarified myself more... Vista will be a nice upgrade to Windows XP. More secure, more features, prettier graphics blah blah blah...

Interesting how you mention "crippling DRM" but you are switching to Apple which has the shittest DRM rights around...
