Good to know. What do they look like?

"One of the hidden hoon cameras caught this hatchback doing burnouts."

Looks like they might need better cameras.

Hard to believe the hooning has become that bad in some suburbs. They have always said that the problem is they are unable to catch them in the act, whether this will actually prevent anything, time will tell.

A better way to save the money would be to allow people with dash cams to come forward and submit their footage which can be used for the same purposes. Not sure if there is a legitimate way/process to do that currently.

These camers which record hooning, I would be interested to know who has the job of sitting down and analysing the footage from them all. That would also need resource to do.

In addition to the hoon cameras, surely they must also draw upon hundreds of new traffic CCTV cameras which are around. You'd hope so otherwise there is a massive wasted opportunity there. You could only hope Liza Harvey has the common sense to figure that one out.

I think for the most part, if there are public complaints in certain areas, but more so streets, car parks etc, these things will just be placed there in the hopes of getting people and building a case against them.

As the Police Minister, she can tell the public she now has a "weapon" against hooning in an attempt to resolve the issue and put the "fed up" mums and dads at bay to a degree, which will almost certainly never happen.

tl;dr - Hoon hard @ RAC instead.

sure we have all done some 'questionable' things over the years, but to think no one watching these days would be silly!!

Anyone can do this, right now. Attend any Police Station with the footage (on CD/DVD. Rock up with your dash cam and expect groans and expect it back months later). Be prepared to give a statement, this could take an hour. Be prepared to be summonsed to court as a witness, to give evidence before the magistrate, and write off the whole day from work. Courts wont give a specific time you're required on the stand, you get a trial date and that's as good as it gets.

I believe it's office staff, upstairs, on level 2.

A large proportion of those camera's don't save the footage.

Should set these cameras up in school zones and residential areas.

Will pay themselves off in weeks with the amount of Soccer mums in "4x4's" that bomb along at 60/70 clicks.

Standard...

using the Perth-WRX mobile app
drewgong and Rslib72 like this.
