Default Computer TV Tuners

hey all, i was looking at getting a tv for my room but then got given a 22" LCD monitor for my bday for my computer, seeing as that was bigger then tv i was gonna buy for my room i thort i mite use that for TV instead of wastin space and money on another tv. I already have a tv tuner card in my computer, ive had it for ages. The thing is thou when i got it, it worked, but only for about 10 seconds, sometimes for up to two minutes before the computewr would freeze, when i bought it i paid about 200 bucks for it and it wont even play for more then 2 mins without freezing, now i have this screen i wanna get it workin.

can anyone tell me why my computer freezes??

probably a problem with the driver. What card is it? Make sure you have the latest drivers possible and are you displaying the output through your video card in your pc? what video card is it? Make the the latest drivers are installed for it. Also does the graphics card have a fan on it? If it gets too hot it WILL lock up (from experience).

Drivers, compatability issues, hardware or software.
Check also that you have disabled any automated things such as screensavers and power saver features, I know my card doesnt like it when a screensaver tries to come on. (I have to reboot)

Most tv cards have an svideo output which you use to connect to your tv to display the picture. But if your connecting it to your LCD you would be using your DVI output on your video card for crystal clear image. So youll be using DVI (or HDMI)
When i ask has it got a fan, i mean your graphics card (if your not using onboard vga), not the tv card.

I have an ezV box instead of a TV card. It's basically a device with a whole lot of spots to plug in your computer and TV aerials, headphones/stereo, ps2/xbox etc and watch them all on one computer monitor. All you have to do is switch between devices like you would using a vcr with all the av channels. Only problem is i can't get an aerial powerful enough in my room and can't be bothered getting an aerial port put in either, so no tv. Cost $99 from memory. Just a cheaper option that doesn't use computer power.

Agreed!

I sell them and still don't recommend them for your average PC User - more trouble than they are worth.
