Default Ecu confusion

Hi all,

Bit of a dellemma,
My my99 wrx has had a ecu modification, although I can't figure out what has been done and by who.The ecu is inside standard casing, but when you open it up there is a aftermarket fitted board on top of my original,it also has a map sensor inbuilt and another port which looks similar to a stereo auxiliary port.I'm having electrical problems and I'm sure the ecu is at fault. It also displays no engine check light ever, and I can't connect any scanner to my obd2 port, even though it has power in al the right spots. There's no labels or brandings anywhere, I can't get a picture at this second but any help would be great.

Cheers
