I see, so any SLR camera will do the job, it all comes down to the coin you spend on film. Makes sence now.

Wot is an SLR worth, say like the one you bought.. was that new?

that old nikon is a Nikon FA, cost about $200-$200 on ebay if you find a good one. Theyre about 20-25 yrs old.

I'm starting to collect a few others now, and waiting on a Nikon F3 to arrive.. one of the true old school Nikon films

best thing is you can use all my full frame lenses on these old cameras.

focus is manual and you can use the camera's in built metering, although it's better to shoot in full manual metering with a hand light meter (or carry my D200 around and use that as a rough guide - since film ISO is very different)

The number 1 best thing about the old film SLR cameras is their view finders. They are so big and bright.

I have been buying old manual lenses for my digital, some of the old glass is so awsome if you can handle full manual. They are cheap too.

As for travelling with an SLR, I have not found it to be a problem, in fact Im travelling with two SLRs so I dont have to swap lenses so much. I get my wife to carry one and I carry one. I leave the lenses Im not using at the hotel. Have been rocking a 17-40mm, 8mm fisheye and 60mm macro the most. I have seen a fair amount of travellers getting pissed with p&s compact cameras trying to get night/dusk shots handheld where as I havent had any issues at all.
