L series work more than fine with 400d and 40d...i'd upgrade the lenses first but thats me...

used different L series lenses but by far the best is the 70-200 f2.8 IS, even on 400d photos looks stunning. Get 17-40 L and the one mentioned above before getting a 5d.

It costs a lot of money so only get into it if you are very serious about your photography. Also if you're getting lenses only (and both of them as mentioned above) think about getting them from hong kong or the like. Been there and prices are a lot more affordable and canon carries international warranty for their lenses.

I will probably get a 5D next, I am pretty happy with my 30D in the mean time though. There is no point getting a 5D though if you are not going to run nice glass like 16-35L, 24-70L or 24-105L. I have the 17-40L and its a nice lens, but its not as good as the ones I mentioned before.

Currently running:

EF-S: 10 - 22mm, 18-55(shit stock lens), 70 - 300mm IS.

Looks like a lens upgrade is the way to go then.

10mm on your 400D = 16mm on a 5D

16-35L, 24-105, 70-200L or 100-400L might be the way to go. You could buy a 17-40 if you wanted to save some cash though I suppose.

First lens I would get for a 5D would be 24-105 like topgear or 24-70 like NVRENUF... They are a good quality walk around.

Yeah see i went 24-70 because of the F2.8 where as 24-105 is only F4

good combo

5D
24-70 F2.8
70-200 F2.8 IS
580EX II

If have the money and have wide get a 16-35L
