Default X-box through LCD monitor

Okay, so i do a lot of remote site work, as do a lot of people here, and was wondering if anyone has done what I'm trying do.
I have a Samsung 19" LCD monitor with VGA and DVI-D inputs. I want to run my x-box through it after work (or during for that matter).
I've managed to get picture to work using the HDMI output, through a HDMI/DVI-D adapter into the monitor... but what do I do about audio? Obviously with x-box, the RCA out for audio is part of the big x-box plug (that has rca video out in it too). What are people's thought? I cant have both the HDMI and big x-box plug in the back of the x-box together (because they dont fit in together). Is it possible to convert the yellow video RCA to either VGA or DVI-D? That way, i dont need to use HDMI at all, I can just use the x-box plug and adapt yellow video to VGA or DVI-D and the 2 audio RCA's to my speaker system.

Anyone doing it? thoughts?

Cheers
Matt

you cant convert composite (yellow plug) to vga or dvi-d

hdmi carries audio so i assume that when you have that plugged in (to the converter which wont convert the audio side) there is no audio coming from the RCA? Id expect you'd be able to still use RCA for audio even with HDMI on perhaps with some option in the xbox's setup... but i have no xbox so just guessing.

I presume when the HDMI cable is plugged in to the back of the x-box there is no signal being sent to the regular x-box 3xRCA plug. However, i cant check this, as the HDMI and regular x-box plugs dont both fit in at the same time (the sockets/holes are right next to each other). I presume it's designed this way so you cant have both plugs in at once.

So the question stands. How do i get video to my LCD monitor, and audio to an external speaker system?

Next question, can i put a swithing box in-line to switch between laptop and x-box inputs, and play x-box games with my keyboard?

you can get a vga switch box easily or probably put your laptop to the dvi and the xbox to the vga and just use the monitor to switch but i don't think the xbox supports keyboards. I know the ps3 does for a few things....so maybe there is a way on the xbox too.

That's a good idea. I wasn't entirely serious when i asked, but now that you say that, it's a good idea. I was thinking more along the lines of playing games with my keyboard, then kind of "alt+tabbing" to switch back to work stuff...

I just went and got the cable that Jim suggested. Works a treat.
